To my dearest Tin-Tin,

Wishing you all the bestest, smelliest, wetest licks on your Bark-day !!! Happy Barkday to you !

You know that I only have eyes for you - well, in this hemisphere anyway :-) You gotta understand, Mackie is my "lover-boy" (whom I have to share with Sunshade), whereas you are my "boyfriend" - there is a big difference ! Plus, you were eyeing off Isabella a few weeks ago :-) I think Sunshade has the right idea - one girlfriend/boyfriend per breed :-)

The question is - will you still love me when I am skinny ? Cause if you won't, I would go off my stupid diet right now - just for you ! (Not because I am REALLY hungry and feel like my stomach has started to eat itself !!).

Hope you got lots of treats, toys and spoiling for your special day !

Lots of love and licks,

Opy

Vet's, and dare I say,.....diet ?

Well, as you all know - I went to see Dr Davis yesterday to have my 6 week check up after I had my yucky lump cut out.

Dr Davis showed mum what to look for and how to feel my leg so she can keep an eye out for any lump re-occurance. Unfortunately, my lump has already started to come back - it is about the size of a penny, so hardly worth worrying about at this stage. I have HEAPS of lumps - they are all what is called Lipoma's (which are just fatty cysts - that us 'larger' female labs can be prone to) - so it was good for Dr Davis to get mum to feel the difference between my yucky lump and the lipoma's, so now she knows EXACTLY what she needs to feel for. They all decided that until it gets to the size of about 2 inches that we aren't going to worry about it - "monitoring" they call it - and because it is "localised" they are able to do that. IF it gets that size, then I will go and get it taken out again - and get to sleep
inside for the night :-) Almost makes it worthwhile :-)

I also have another little problem in that because I am so weak in my back end, I have become quite "barrel chested" and my front legs are starting to turn in - Dr Davis said i am starting to look like a bulldog - which is okay with me, as bulldog's are tuff :-) Well, he "poo-pooed" my bulldog transformation on account of the fact that I will start to get arthritis in my wrists etc etc - and then when mum asked what we can do about it - he said it.....the dreaded word that no doggie (especially a Lab) ever wants to hear - DIET !!!! Oh dear lord......why me ?????

I have to lose 5kgs (11pounds) - which to quote Dr Davis "would make all the difference" - hmph, I could starve to death in the process, and THAT would make all the difference !!!! So, I am going to chart my weight progress here on my blog - with accompanying whinging - to show you all how I am going.

So, as of tomorrow - I am back on the AAHA Diet - cooked beans, carrots, with a small amount of lean meat and cottage cheese - for THREE weeks !!!! Can you believe it ? In preparation mum and dad have gone and hidden all the pot plants because last time I went on it I went "berko" and destroyed not only the pot plants - but also the pots as well ! We are having a last feast tonight where I will have a BBQ shank and canned food, before my starvation period begins. Only saving grace for all this is I heard mum and dad saying that Charlie is going to go on it as well as he could "stand to lose a few kilo's" and "it's not fair to Opy for Charlie to eat canned goods and she can't". Hee Hee - sweet ! I don't think he know's yet !

I didn't frows up in the car yesterday either, so that was pretty good. Dr Davis is an hour's drive each way, and I always frow up - but not this time. Mum got me some pills too - so when we go on holidays, I won't frow's up and will feel better about the whole car business.

BTW, as a last treat Charlie and I got cheeseburgers from Burger King on the way home from the vets - YUMMO ! There are no pics of us eating them though as they kinda get eaten pretty quick - I am sure you all understand where I am coming from on this one :-)

Ohhh, I want you all to go and check out my lover-boy, Mackie's blog - and go and vote for Dean-O so his momma can win $1000 for Fox Terrier rescue. He has a banner on his page that you can click and go and vote - I registered and voted - took me a few minutes, but as we are all of superior intelligence, it shouldn't be too hard for you all to participate :-) It's a great cause, and as Mackie is part of our wonderful dogblogger community - we MUST support him :-) Plus he is my boyfriend - whom I share with Sunshade :-)

One more thing that has made me alittle gruff today - I have noticed on alot of our blogs here at dogswithblogs that "another party" (who I won't name) has popped up inviting all of our doggies to go and join their new dog blog and shopping website. Now, I have NO problem sharing the love around - but what makes me alittle gruff is how hard mum and dad have worked to get dogswithblogs going and getting new dogs to join up - searching the web for dog blogs then sending out invites for hours of a night and sometimes into the early hours of the morning - and now this "other party" comes along and appears to be using the dogswithblogs master list to invite you all to go and join them ! DogswithBlogs is by no means an "exclusive" list, heck, Charlie and I are members of other lists too, my point is - to the "other party", don't just rip off our list, do some research and find your own !!! Would also be a good idea if this "other party" created it's own original slogan - does "one place to read blogs on the net" sound alittle familiar to anyone ????? Rant over !

Okay, that's about it for now -

Starting weight - 41.3kg's (91 pounds)
Target weight - 36kg's (79.5 pounds).

Wish me luck !

Lots of love,

Opy
the gruffpuppy who has been forced to go on a starvation diet !

Evening all,

Just a quick post tonight, before I come back tomorrow and tell you all about my adventures at Dr Davis's today.

I got tagged by Floss - and here is my "furever" home story - some of you may not have read it before -

Mum and dad had had Charlie for about a year when I came along. They had been toying with the idea of getting another doggie for awhile as Charlie was home alone alot, as mum and dad both work. One Saturday afternoon, mum was looking through the local paper and saw me advertised not too far from where we lived. Dad didn't take too much convincing, so they called the number and was told that someone was already on the way to have a look at me - but if they didn't turn up they would call us back and we were next in line. So, they waited, and waited, and waited - and about 3 hours later - the call came, I was their's if they wanted me.
So, they came and picked me up - I was only 6 weeks old and tiny - I also wasn't very well, but that is another story completely. I slept on mum's lap all the way home - probably about the only car ride I have taken that I haven't vomited on :-)
When we got home, I was introduced to Charlie. Can you imagine how huge he looked to me ? he wouldn't leave me alone, and freaked out alittle - but mum and dad kept an eye on us and knew we would be okay together - I wasn't so sure ! Later in the afternoon I ventured up the backyard when a magpie swooped on me and tried to peck me on the head - well, Charlie came racing along and scared that old magpie away - from that moment on, I knew everything would be okay and that we would be best friends always.
I am glad those other people didn't turn up - because I have the BEST family in the world ! Although, I sometimes wonder if those "city folk" had of taken me, maybe I would have been a true inside dog :-) Guess I will never know :-)

Okay - so I need to tag 5 more doggies - tell us all about how you got to your "furever" home -

Beagledom
Buster
Sadie Mae
Sunshade
Floss

Talk to you tomorrow,

Can someone please help me ?

Why is it that as soon as mum has some scotches - she thinks she can sing ?
For the last two hours I have had to listen to her "sing" - and it's all dad's fault as he gave her access to all the songs on his computer, and now she think's she's freakin' "talented" !!!! Oh my poor delicate ears !!! Please, all you doggies out there - how do I shut her up ? Maybe I need to eat another birdie ?

Copper asked how we all got our names. Well, I don't know if I have told this story or not - it's hard to remember when your ears are bleeding ! - I am named after one of the richest women in the world - Oprah Winfrey. My full name is Oprah - but I get called Opy for short - and only Oprah when I am in trouble - and yes, I was called Oprah when the bird incident occurred ! Apparently, it was on the TV when mum and dad bought me home, so that's what I was called.

Anyways, I can't concentrate with all this infernal racket going on - so will write more tomorrow after my visit to Dr Davis.

Remember -
Scotch + music does NOT make you a singer !

Love,

Opy

R.I.P little birdie

I didn't mean to eat you - but you shouldn't have just flown into my open mouth. What was I to do ? I can't even blame Charlie as he doesn't go in the kennel - it was all me.

"Hello - my name's Opy, and I eat birds."

Mum and dad have their "gruff" chops on about the bird eating incident - guess there won't be any inside time for me tonight. They say I am a naughty girl !

Sigh !!!!!

Wish me luck for my 6 week checkup on Saturday - we are off to see Dr Davis to make sure my yucky lump hasn't come back - hope I am back in the "good books" by then.

Off to think now of how I can redeem myself....

OH MY DOG !

Look what mum and dad bought back from the shops today ? Hmmmm, I don't know how I feel about this "holiday" business ? I will read up on it alittle further before I give it "the two paws up" (or "down").

We have never been on holidays with mum and dad before - I hear them talking about the "beach". What's a beach ? Would I like it ? Is there water there ? I don't think I would like it if there was water there. Do I have to go in the car ? I get sick in the car ! Hmmmm, I don't know how I feel about all this. I need to sleep on it.

I guess on the plus side - I wouldn't have to go to the stupid kennels where the lady looks like a Pekingese - and I would be with mum and dad - oh, and Charlie - so that might be okay.
What do you all think - I need opinions, I am freaking out !

I think this is the place they are looking at taking us -

I'M BACK !!!!

Yeah, Yeah - I know, there's been no blog entries this week - and believe me, I am very "gruff" about it ! Mum has promised that this week was just an "anomoly" (huh ?), and next week she will be back helping me blog at least twice a week. She blames it on getting readjusted to going back to work, and still not feeling 100%, plus dad has been sick again too - I'm like, "whatever, just get over it - and get back to normal". I mean, I am sympathetic to this working business that her and dad have to do - but sheeesh, don't let it interfere with my blogging schedule, okay !

Righto, down to business. Had some fun tonight - mum and dad played with us lots in the loungeroom. Charlie stole dad's pillow - so I thought it was a good idea to steal mums, but I just laid my head on it, not tried to rip it up like Charlie did. It was lots of fun.

Mum's whinging right now because they ordered pizza for dinner from the dodgy local pizza shop - and they always feel sick after it - so now she feels sick and says she shouldn't have eaten the pizza. I ask you - if she know's it is going to make her sick - why eat it ? I don't understand humans at all !!!

What else happened ? Oh, the pool is still leaking - so that is no good. The house needs to be tidyed up - dad's gonna do that tomorrow when mum does groceries, how good is he ? He also does the washing too ! Then I heard a rumour that Charlie and I are to have baths - ha, not if I have anything to do with it - I mean I only had one about 3 weeks ago, surely it's not time for another ? Tell me, does this face look like it needs a bath ? I think not !

Check out the Bone Zone boards over the weekend, the Polls will be opening for the next round of voting......

Catch you all tomorrow,

Love

Opy

Oh no - I've been "tagged" - is that a good thing ? I best read some more about it -

hmmmm, yep it's okay - here's how it works -

The player of this game starts with "5 weird things/habits about yourself." Then you tag 5 friends and list their names. The furries who get tagged need to write on their blogs about their 5 weird things/habits, as well as state this rule clearly, then tag 5 more victims. Don't forget to leave your victim a comment that says "you're tagged!" in their comments and tell them to read your blog.

1. I can stretch and "break wind" at the same time

2. I like to just sit as close to my humans as possible and stare at them

3. I don't like lettuce

4. I turn in circles before I go to sleep

5. I can snore whilst I am awake.

I tag - Floss, Billie Jean, Herbie, Mary-Margaret O'Brien , Boomer, Boo

No pics tonight - mum's not only "zorsted" again, but she is gruff too - on account of the having to go back to stupid work today. Why they have to go to work is beyond me - surely they should get paid for staying at home and playing with us and helping us do our Blogs ? That's much more fun !

Talk to you all soon.

Love
Opy

Friday, August 11, 2006

Good afternoon everyone,

Firstly, I must apologise for my lack of Blog entry yesterday - but mum was "zorsted", whatever that means, and as she has the opposable thumbs and needs to help me with my blog - I am at her mercy !

So, Mum and dad woke up, and I heard Dad say that he was feeling "much better" - goodo, I think, that means Charlie and I will get LOTS of play time. Should of known when "bone bribery" occurred that all was not as it seemed !

They got in the car and went - we waited and waited and waited - they didn't get home until it was almost dark ! That's when mum exclaimed that she was "zorsted", and had to lay on the lounge. Turns out they went out to the car racing and dad took some PAW-SOME photo's. Let me just explain something to you all - when it comes to car racing, out here in Australia, you have two choices - Ford and Holden (GMC-Chev, to all my U.S pals). Mum, dad and Charlie are true Ford heads - we have 4 cars in our household (yes there is only 2 humans - but that is a whole other story!), and three of them are Fords ! Where do I fit into this cheery little family unit ? Well, I don't - I am a Holden gal - and let me tell you, I am completely ostracized for my beliefs come raceday ! I LOVE Mark Skaife - almost as much as I love Antonio Banderas, and more than I love Dave Navarro ! Whenever I see him or his car on the TV, I get all excited and I can barely contain myself.

When mum and dad got home and I found out where they had been - and how close they had been to my HERO - I was quite GRUFF ! I should have been included in this little outing ! I guess dad must have felt guilty at abandoning us for the day, as he actually took some pics of my hero - I am surprised he allowed it on his almighty Canon 30D ! Anyway, here are some pics - I am gonna get him to print them out so I can put them up in my kennel - and lick them before I go to sleep :-)

It is a beautiful day today - I have been sitting in the sun eating my bone - and watching the big water dish (mum and dad call it "the pool") fill up. It had a big crack in it - which has now (hopefully) been fixed, so it was empty for a few months - but as it is now getting warmer, they decided to try and fill it up again. Dad reckons it will be full by 6pm - mum says 4pm - we shall see who is closest ! Me ? Well, I don't care as long as I don't have to go anywhere near it !! Charlie has a bit of a walk around in it before when it was empty - I think dad will be putting some pics on his blog - he was pretty pleased with himself !

Well, that's about it for today - hope you all have a great weekend !

Lots of love,

Opy

P.S - Jason, from the mydogshavefleas gang caught mum out with my last blog entry - he said that I looked "svelte" in my pic - ha !! Mum used a pic from about 4 years ago - BUSTED !!!!! Heeheee - yes, i was alittle slimmer back then !!! Good pick up Jason - that will teach her to use old photos :-)
P.S.S - We have had a few new doggies join "DogsWithBlogs" over the past few days - go and make them all feel welcome !

10 Things I discovered today -

* I can snore when I am awake.

* Cookies seem to give me excess flatulance.

* Mum's black sleepy pants are just as bad as her purple ones.

* Rabbit poo tastes good.

* I can move real fast when I am down the backyard and the screen door opens, signalling inside time.

* Rockstar Supernova is rigged !!!

* Mum gets grumpy when she comes home from the Dentist.

* If I lay on my bed after dinner, Charlie can't steal it.

* Dad is still sick.

* No matter how hard mum tries to hide my heartworm tablet in my food - I can still find it !

Other than that - not much happened today, I guess after all the cookie and bone excitement from yesterday, we were just looking for a mellow day today.

Til tomorrow,

Love & Licks,

Opy

COOKIES AND MID-WEEK BONES !!!!

This entry is SO exciting - it needed a title !

So, mum went to the shops today and came back with bones for us - mid week and everything ! Usually we only get bones on the weekend - so we were pretty excited about that !

Whilst we were munching on our bones - a delicious smell came wafting out from the kitchen.
Couldn't quite place my paw on the smell, but it smelt SO good. Then it dawned on me - mum's making COOKIES !!!!! Now, Doodles - if you are reading this - please don't drool on the keyboard, you will get into trouble :-) First up, we had Peanut Butter and Honey cookies, then the second batch were Peanut Butter and Cheese. We could barely wait for them to cool down to give them the taste test. We ended up getting one of each - and they sure met with the "wag" of approval ! Yummo ! I wonder when we can have some more ? Mum said that some of them were alittle burnt around the edges - but Charlie will have those as he doesn't care too much as long as he can eat them. She also said next time she will make them alittle smaller so there are more of them - I reckon she should make them the same size, but just double the mixture :-)

If anyone wants the recipe's, she got them from here - Dog Treat Exchange.

Gonna get some inside time soon - I guess mum and dad have more than made up for their mistreatment of us yesterday, so we are all friends again :-)

Love

Opy

Howdy all,

First things first - please go and give a big "DogswithBlogs" welcome to our two newest doggie recruits - Bella and Boomer, let's make them feel right at home :-)

Now, onto my day - I tell you - the "gruff chops of doom" kinda came out alittle today ! Why ? I hear you all ask ! Well...........how much inside time do you think we got up 'til 5pm today ? Bear in mind that both the humans are home from work - so one would assume we would have "open door policy" all day, right ? WRONG !!!!! Up 'til 5pm today we had the grand total of ZERO hours inside ! Scandalous, i say !!!!!

First up they "supposedly" had to take Dad's company car for a service - so mum had to go too so she could drive him home from the car place. Hmmmmmm, a likely story - so, why did they come home smelling like McDonalds, and trying to sneak the McDonalds rubbish into the garbage bin ?

Whilst Charlie and I were trying to work out this puzzle - after a snooze, of course - they get ready to jump in mum's car to go out again - this time to go and pick up dad's car. Now, I know how long it took them last time to get there and back - about an hour - so, I consult the clock in our kennel and keep an eye on the time - 2 HOURS later they return !!! 2 hours, I tell you ! I must get to the bottom of this mystery - what could be so important that it cuts into our inside time ? Well, it would seem that Dad had to get a new hard drive for his laptop - so they had to take a detour on the way. Okay, i'll accept that excuse.

Finally some inside time after dinner - I had this really weird dream when I was snoozing by the fire tonight. I can't remember who I was getting gruff with - but I was growling at someone in my sleep - mum and dad were laughing as I never ever bark or growl - except once when i was a puppy and that was at a hot air balloon.

Dad is still feeling lousy - I hope he feels better soon. He did manage to squeeze off some more pics of me though - I played in the garden for a while and got covered in dirt, pretty funny - but mum brushed me off before I came inside :-( Geez, I am a wide-load, aren't I !!

Then there's this one - mum loves me ever so much - and look at stupid Charlie, trying to look all nonchalant ! You know he is coming over for a hug any second now ! (Excuse mum's purple sleepy pants - she loves to wear them around the house - Dad, Charlie and I are going to vote them out of the house - just like they do on that STUPID Big Brother show !)

I think this last pic I was trying to see if i really did have a "flip-top-head" ? If I did, I could get so much more food in my mouth !

See ya all tomorrow - where inside time will be forthcoming - OR ELSE !

Love,

Opy

Monday, August 07, 2006

Hi all,

Better late than never I guess ! It's almost 9.30pm over here and I finally get some computer time ! We've had a VERY hard day today - so much inside time, and sleeping - so very hard for a gal like me to take :-) Dad is now sick, but mum feels much better - so we just lazed around most of the day and watched movies. Poor dad :-( We are all looking after him real good - trying to make him feel better.

Oh, mum yelled at the Census people (don't ask !
Floss know's what I am talking about)twice, and has threatened "blue murder" (once again, have no idea what that means ! ) if they try and fine us for their incompetence ! Lesson here ? Don't mess with my mummy when she gets mad !

Funny story, we realised the other day that Floss lives like 30 minutes away from us - and that her humans take her and Angus to see Dr Davis as well !!!! How cool is that !!! We may have been sitting at the Vets and Floss could have been there too - and we would never have known ! It really is a small world !

I really
don't have too much to report today - I hope that M.J likes her surprise, i am sure she will :-) And here are some random pics that my dad took - I have no idea what I was doing, but they look pretty funny :-) Actually, I think in the bottom one I was yelling at dad to get that damn camera out of my face !!!!

Til tomorrow - lots of love,

Opy

Saturday, August 05, 2006

Hi all !

Well, most of you have probably already read Charlie's blog - but I thought I would get in on the video action as well. Here's me eating my bone in loungroom. How lucky were we last night to eat our bones inside ? That has NEVER happened before ! I think the humans were feeling alittle guilty as they went out and we didn't get our dinner 'til 8.30pm. How rude !

I also found out today that both mum and dad have the whole of next week off ! YIPEE ! Do you know how much inside time that means ? They keep saying they have "no plans" - I guess that means they will be spending ALL their time with Charlie and I - and we will have free access to the computer so I can blog EVERYDAY ! Plus I can also keep an eye on things, and make sure that everydoggie keeps on "Paw-ing it Forward" :-)

Gotta run, bones won't eat themselves, you know !

Lots of love and licks,

Opy - the un-gruffest puppy in the world today :-)

Thursday, August 03, 2006

Good Morning all,

I was reading my buddy
Pippin’s blog last night – and it got me thinking, I bet, from time to time, we all sometimes wonder if anyone out there in cyberland is reading our blogs – so, here is what I want you all to do – follow these instructions closely – or you will incur the “wrath of the GruffPuppy” – and you wouldn’t want that, would you ?

1. Go to the following web page

www.dogswithblogs.com.au

(yep, a blatant plug for our web site – but hey, the more you go to the main page, the more chance we have of getting back into the “top 100 Dog Sites”)

2. Click on the square that says “the Blogs” - by the way, do you all like our new “sortable” list ? I think it’s pretty cool because by clicking on the headings of each row, you can sort by name, breed, location etc – pretty neat huh !

3. Now this is the important one – I want you each to go to 5 blogs that you have never gone to before, read them, and leave a comment – comeon, make some new friends !

4. Should you complete this mission, I will put my “gruff chops” away for another day and all will be well in the “dogswithblogs” world :-)

Or, if you are feeling particularly lazy - just click here - "Paw-it-Forward"

Lots of love,
Opy

Good evening everyone,

Just a wee update on Charlie before I have to go and watch "Rockstar - Supernova" - it's elimination night tonight and it's high time that Zayra went home - oops, sorry, back to Charlie ! Well, after his little episode last night - he seems to be doing fine today, mum and dad didn't give him any more Metacam - don't know if that was what caused his freak out, but just in case - they decided not to give him anymore. He must be feeling better because he ripped my coat off me this morning and put a hole in it - how rude !!!!!!

Whilst I was looking in the Library today that is housed in our kennel - I came across the following that I thought I would share - it's called "If I Didn't Have Pets".

If I Didn't Have Pets.....

I could walk around the yard barefoot in safety.

My house could be carpeted instead of tiled and laminated.

All flat surfaces, clothing, furniture, and cars would be free of hair.

When the doorbell rings, it wouldn't sound like the kennels.

I could sit on the couch the way I wanted, without taking into consideration how much space several fur babies would need to get comfortable.

I would not have strange presents under my Christmas tree.....dog bones, stuffed animals and squeaky toys, nor would I have to answer to people why I wrap them.

I wouldn't have more puppy treats and dog food, than "people food" in my pantry.

I would not be on a first-name basis with three veterinarians.

The most used words in my vocabulary would not be: out, sit, down, come, no, stay, and leave him/her/it ALONE!

My house would not be cordoned off into zones with baby gates or barriers.

When the doorbell rings, I could get to the door without wading through the throng of fuzzy bodies who always beat me there!

I would not know what puppy pads, kitty litter, or belly bands were for.

I would not have newspapers that weren't shredded, or socks with tennis balls tied in them.

My pockets would not contain things like poop bags, treats and an extra leash.

I would no longer have to spell the words B-A-L-L-,
F-R-I-S-B-E-E, or W-A-L-K.

I would not have as many leaves INSIDE my house as outside.

I would not look strangely at people who think having ONE dog ties them down too much.

I'd look forward to spring and the melting of snow instead of dreading mud season.

I would not have to answer the question: "Why do you have so many dogs/cats/animals?" from people who will never have the joy in their lives of knowing they are loved unconditionally by something as close to an angel as they will ever get!

How empty my life would be!!!

I really liked that - I know that that is exactly how my mum and dad feel about Charlie and me - and I reckon all of the other 110 mums and dads on the "DogsWithBlogs" master list would feel the same.....

Gotta run - I can hear the music starting on the tele, just between you and me - I think Dave Navarro is pretty spunky :-)

Lots of love,

Hi everyone,

Well, Charlie came home last night - and I was SO pleased to see him ! I couldn't settle at all yesterday - which kinda annoyed me as I didn't take full advantage of all my inside time and treats ! Once he was home though - all was well in our world :-)

He is doing fine - the humans fussed over him considerably, which made me alittle mad - but then mum reminded me of how much fussing I received when I was sick, so I guess she has a point.

Mum is home again today - she is pretty sick with the bronchitis and all her coughing is keeping us all awake - I think she might light the fire soon and me and Charlie can go inside and keep her company. I think she is a bit miserable today - but we will give her lots of love to make her feel better - gee, I think I need a nurses uniform, between her and Charlie - when's a girl meant to get any rest ?

Thanks for all the good Charlie wishes - he will be okay - but I will keep a close eye on him just to make sure :-)

Lots of love,
Opy
